Meet Sherry Crouse
Sherry
grew up in Sebree, a western Kentucky small town with a
population of some 1500, and had little opportunity to
develop artistic skills. Her only recollection of art
studies in school is a project in 8th grade
when she learned to graph draw from a picture.
Sherry drew and colored a beautiful purple iris. Once
graduated from high school, she embarked on a lifelong
career in the insurance industry specializing in service
of large commercial property and casualty accounts.
Always
interested in crafts, sewing, flower arranging, and
decorating, she met a very talented artist at the Ben
Franklin Store in Evansville, Indiana who taught tole
and decorative painting in the evenings. Sherry forged
out a few hours a week for the classes and joined the Rivertown Chapter of Decorative Artist as well as the
Society of Decorative Painters.
Her
painting skills quickly developed as she attended
national and regional painting conventions, filling her
schedule with as many classes as possible. As her
abilities rapidly grew, she broadened her painting from
acrylics to watercolor, pen and ink with oils, and oil
painting.
Sherry’s
favorite subjects are birds and wildlife, rural
landscapes, farms, mountain landscapes, still lifes, and
scenes of historic buildings such as those at the Shaker
Village of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. She also has a
great love of nature and travel, which is a constant
inspiration for her paintings.
Sherry
is currently working toward the Teacher of Decorative
Art (TDA) designation of the Society of Decorative
Painters Teacher Development Program. In 2005,
she completed the Dorothy Dent Certified Teacher
program and obtained her DDCI Certification. She is an active member of Kentuckiana
Decorative Artist.
Her
plans for the future…paint as many original paintings as
possible, design pattern packets, travel, teach, and do
some publishing. Sherry and her family live near
LaGrange, north of Louisville, Kentucky. Thanks for
taking the time to look at her website.
